The President, Vice-Presidents and Trustees of the Bradfield Festival of Music Association thank you for your ongoing support and take this opportunity to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
We hope you managed to attend some part of this year’s Festival and that you enjoyed the music and atmosphere in the unique setting of Bradfield. Next year we break with recent tradition and, by mutual consent with the artistes concerned, the Festival will not feature the Meirion Ensemble or have the Gilbert & Sullivan evening. This gives us the opportunity to engage new artistes and bring back one or two other regulars. Here is a preview of the performers whom we have engaged:
Saturday 22nd June 2013
The organ at St Nicholas’ Church, High Bradfield has undergone major restoration and to mark the completion of the works the opening concert will feature Dr Gordon Stewart on organ with Tom Osborne on trumpet. For 20 years Gordon has been resident organist at Huddersfield Town Hall and Tom, a freelance musician, plays trumpet with the Hallé Orchestra.
Sunday 23rd June 2013
The guest preacher at Choral Evensong will be the Rt Revd Dr Steven Croft, Bishop of Sheffield.
Monday 24th June 2013
We are delighted to bring the Chamber Ensemble of St Martin in the Fields to play for you at Bradfield. This is the ensemble’s inaugural visit to the Festival and you can look forward to a wonderful evening with these highly skilled musicians
Tuesday 25th June 2013
Julian Lloyd Webber, our President, and his wife Jiaxin will make their Bradfield debut as a duet so this concert featuring Julian will be completely different to those previously experienced by our audiences.
Wednesday 26th June 2013
This evening’s concert features another husband and wife team! Internationally acclaimed soprano Elizabeth Watts returns to Bradfield, this time joined by her baritone husband, Guy Robinson. Their accompanist is Paul Turner, one of the country’s most able accompanists and recitalists.
Thursday 27th June 2013
One of England’s best loved clarinet players makes her 3rd appearance at Bradfield. Emma Johnson is one of the few clarinettists to have established a busy solo career which has taken her to major European, American and Asian venues as well as to Africa and Australasia. Emma will be accompanied by John Lenehan.
Friday 28th June 2013
Harlequin Brass is the North of England’s premier 10-piece brass ensemble. Based in Yorkshire, the group has gained respect throughout the country and further afield with its commitment to musical excellence as well as variety and entertainment. Harlequin Brass last appeared at the Festival in 1999 and we are pleased to welcome their return.
Saturday 29th June 2013
We conclude the Festival with the Mansfield based Cantamus Girls Choir whose choristers are aged between 13 and 19 years. The Choir was formed in 1968 and has achieved a host of titles and awards from world class competitions including the BBC/Sainsbury’s Choir of the Year, the Llangollen International Eisteddfod, the World Choir Games, the Olympic Choir Games and the Montreux International Choral Festival.
Tickets will be on sale from mid-March and you should receive more information and the booking form at that time. In the interim you may direct any enquiries to Keith Hoyland, the Festival Secretary on 0114 286 2511 or e-mail bradfieldmusic@aol.com.
